The spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) has accelerated into a deadly pandemic with the economic impact of the crisis being felt worldwide. It has also affected India and we see the number of confirmed cases rising everyday. To contain the virus and to prevent its further spread, the Prime Minister announced a complete lockdown which is extended till 3rd May, 2020. Schools and colleges have been closed, many industries have stopped their operation, private companies have been ordered to work from home, construction activities have stopped, and all transport services suspended. The lockdown announced by the Indian government has direly affected people like daily wage workers, street vendors etc. We are now seeing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Keeping the present scenario in mind, Anugraha Foundation has come to the aid of a few families with dry ration and essential sanitary products for their survival during this lockdown. We were able to support more than 200 families from Kolkata and South 24 Pgs. area. We sincerely thank the sponsors for providing their valuable support to help these families in need.
The COVID-19 infection is growing fast at an exponential rate across the world. As on 22nd April 2020, confirmed cases stand at 24,75,723 with 169,151 deaths globally. The pandemic is also spreading rapidly in India with 19,984 cases and 640 deaths. On 24th March, 2020, the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered a nationwide lockdown for 21 days which was later extended till 3rd May, 2020, limiting movement of the entire 1.3 billion population of India as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. This has a profound impact on every class of society but the most affected are the poor.
